Dimuth Karunaratne (දිමුත් කරුණාරත්න) is a left-hand opening batsman and current skipper of Sri Lanka Cricket Team. He has represented his team in Test and One Day International formats of ICC. Karunaratne made his first-class cricket debut for Sinhalese Sports Club in 2008 and currently plays for it and known red-ball specialist in Test Cricket for his consistent performances in second innings of Test Match.
He has played domestic List A while representing Dambulla squad for 2017–18 Super Four Provincial Tournament and 2018 Super Provincial One Day Tournament. Karunaratne was announced as Sri Lanka Cricket Team ODI captain by replacing Lasith Malinga in April 2019, ahead of ICC 2019 Cricket World Cup. He scored his highest Test runs against Pakistan on October 6, 2017, fell just short of 4 runs and caught behind on a seaming delivery at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Karunaratne became 4th Sri Lanka batsman after Sidath Wettimuny, Marvan Atapattu and Russell Arnold to carry the bat during a Test match against South Africa on July 12, 2018. He scores his maiden Test century against New Zealand with his 152 runs off 363 balls on December 28, 2014, tried to draw in no result but Sri Lanka lost the match. Karunaratne scored his career-best Test runs with 186 runs against West Indies and recorded the highest 3rd wicket at Galle Cricket Stadium with Dinesh Chandimal.
He became second Sri Lankan after Tillakaratne Dilshan to score three test match centuries in the calendar year 2017. He has scored six Test match centuries of which he has scored four centuries in second innings. Karunaratne has made his debut in the English County Championship for Hampshire County Cricket Club in February 2019. He is currently vice-captain of Galle, a domestic T20 tournament called the 2018 SLC T20 League.
