Mohammad Shahzad is a right-handed wicket-keeper opening batsman who opens Afghanistan Cricket Team innings in all three formats on International Cricket. Shahzad has represented his national side Afghan Cricket Team in all three formats of International Cricket. He is best known as one of the most entertaining batsmen in the world for his fearlessness at the crease, thrilling displays, variety of helicopter shots and banging opposition bowlers to give his team flying opening start.

Shahzad played his first-class cricket for Band-e-Amir Dragons and  Spin Ghar Tigers in 2014 Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-day Tournament 2018 Ghazi Amanullah Khan Regional One Day Tournament. He has played his first-class cricket initially in Pakistan while representing Port Qasim Authority, Habib Bank Limited, Khan Research Laboratories and National Bank of Pakistan during the first-class cricket season 2010-11.

Shahzad was born in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan but raised in Peshawar, Pakistan as refugees like his teammates Mohammad Nabi, Hassan Hamid, Asghar Afghan, and Shapoor Zadran. Shahzad has a record of most number of dismissal by a wicket-keeper in T20I first innings with 5 dismissals including 3 catches and 2 stumps on November 29, 2015, against Oman at Abu Dhabi International Stadium.

List A - First Class Cricket 

He has the highest individual runs with his blistering knock of 118 runs off 67 balls with 8 sixes and 10 fours against Zimbabwe in 2016. His magnificent century is the highest ever individual runs in T20I second innings so far. Shahzad made his first international appearance while representing the Afghan Cricket team in the 2009 Cricket World Cup Qualifier in South Africa, His consistent performances helped Afghanistan to achieve ODI status.

He is the first Afghan cricketer to score a first-class double century with 214* unbeaten and he completed his century by hitting six against Canada and helped his team to chase 494 runs. Shahzad became the second player in the history of T20I to hit 200 fours just after Sri Lankan opening batsman and former T20I captain Tillakaratne Dilshan.

T20 League Cricket

He is the leading runs scorer in T20I by any associate ICC member teams and 6th highest of all the time and ranked at number 8th position by ICC T20 Batsman Rankings. Shahzad named in Afghanistan team squad for their first-ever Test match against India in June 2018 and made his Test debut as playing XI. Shahzad has the most number of Man of the Match award with 8 in T20I cricket as associate ICC member.

He played his domestic T20 Shpageeza Cricket League and represented Boost Defenders and Kabul Eagles in 2014 and  2015-16 respectively. Shahzad made his debut in the Bangladesh Premier League for Rangpur Riders during BPL 2016 and later joined Chittagong Vikings in the BPL 2018 edition and retained by the same franchise until the most recent BPL 2019 edition. He made his debut in the inaugural edition of the Afghanistan Premier league and represented Paktia Panthers during APL 2018.
