Khawaja Profile

Usman Khawaja is an Australian cricketer. He was born as Usman Tariq Khawaja on December 18, 1986, in Islamabad Capital City of Pakistan. Khawaja is a Pakistani-born International Australian cricketer. He played all format of international cricket. Ozzie and Smooth are nicknames of Khawaja. He is the 7th foreign-born Australian cricketer in 80 years of cricket history. He became the first Muslim cricketer to represent Australia when he made his debut in the 2010–11 Ashes series.

Usman has a bachelor’s degree in Aviation from the University of South Wales. He is a qualified commercial and instrument-rated pilot. He made his test debut on January 3, 2011 v England and cap 419. UT Khawaja got a lucky chance and became part of the 17-man Australian squad for Ashes series 2010-11 after Ricky Ponting (former Australian captain) fractured his finger in a 3rd test match. Khawaja has played his first test against his country of birth Pakistan against on December 15, 2016.

Usman is a top-ordered left-hand batsman and usually, he opens innings in all formats. Khawaja has played all formats of international cricket. Khawaja has stunning batting averages all formats of cricket. He played Test, ODI, and T20. He was award as Player of the Year of Australian Under-19 Championship in 2005 and represented Australia as an opening batsman in Sri Lanka for U-19 Cricket World Cup-2006.

Khawaja impressed with his consistent performances when he hit consecutive double centuries for New South Wales XI, as a feat which has never been achieved by any NSW player in his very first year of first-class cricket 2008. Khawaja scored his maiden Test century on November 5, 2015, against New Zealand in the first Test, he scored 174 runs with 16 fours and 2 sixes.

He put impressive start to Test cricket since his return he scored 4 centuries in 6 matches. Khawaja is the first person in Test cricket history for scoring Test Century in Day-Night. Khawaja hit consecutive double centuries for New South Wales during his first-class cricket debut year. He is the first man to score the first Day Night Test century in the history of cricket.

T20 Cricket Career

  • Khawaja made his debut for KFC Big Bash League for Sydney Thunder in BBL season 2011 he became the second highest run scorer 345 runs at an average of 172.50.
  • Khawaja plays club cricket for Valley District Cricket Club in Brisbane. He joined Glamorgan County Cricket Club to play in Vitality Blast-2018 tournament during English County Champion.
  • Khawaja made his debut for Derbyshire in County Championship during 2011 in the English domestic season.
  • He joined Lancashire during English County Championship season 2014 as an overseas player and he scored 86 runs against Durham.
