PSL Team Squads - Pakistan Super League - PSL 5 Squads

Pakistan Super League is a professional T20 cricket league that starts every year on February 14. According to the source, PSL 5 opening match scheduled between defending champion Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United. The game will start just after the PSL Opening ceremony at National Cricket Stadium Karachi. PSL Team Squads have announced for this purpose.

Total six teams are featuring in PSL 2020 edition or PSL 5 edition next year. All organisations have to provide a list of final team squads before the end of this month. For this purpose, the organiser of the league Pakistan Cricket Board has required the definitive list of PSL Team Squads from all franchises.

Another great news for the cricket fans is entire PSL 5 season is scheduled to take place here in Pakistan. All matches will play in the major cities of Pakistan including Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Multan. The teams are required to finalise their squad for the upcoming massive entertainment.

Six teams are featuring in Pakistan Super League 2020 edition. Peshawar Zalmi, Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, Quetta Gladiators, Multan Sultans and Lahore Qalandars will feature in this tournament. The contest at home grounds - in house cricket will bring more star players to the Pakistan National Team Squads.

In a brief introduction PSL franchise - Islamabad United is the most successful team with the most number of wins two. In contrast, Quetta Gladiators has dominated with the most number of wins and the highest winning Strike Rate of 62. Lahore Qalandars is the only team which never qualified for the PSL elimination stage or playoffs.

Islamabad United - PSL 5

Islamabad United is a professional T20 franchise cricket team representing the capital city of Pakistan. The team plays in Pakistan Super League and has dominated by winning two titles with maiden title in the PSL 1st edition. 

Islamabad United is nominally based in Islamabad with Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium as the home ground to the franchise. The franchise formed in 2015 with the formation of Pakistan’s first-ever professional Twenty20 cricket league. 

Islamabad United is widely known as United, IU, ISLU and as Sherus. Syed Ali Naqvi and Amna Naqvi predominantly own the franchise and sponsored by the global sports entity. Leonine Global Investments own United as the parent business of Leonine Global Sports owned by Naqvi Family. 

The franchise won the first title of PSL 2016 after defeating Quetta Gladiators in the final with a nail-biting contest. United again won the title in PSL 2018 the third edition of Pakistan Super League by defeating the defending champion Peshawar Zalmi. 

Islamabad United captained by the former skipper and current head of Pakistan National Cricket Team Mr Misbah Ul Haq for the first three seasons. After the retirement of Misbah Ul Haq, team management decided to declare Mohammad Sami as captain and Shadab Khan as vice-captain of the Team. 

PSL Journey

Islamabad United is the most successful team of the tournament with the most number of titles. IU has won Pakistan Super League title twice and played playoffs in all seasons of PSL tournament.  PSL has won 25 games out of 44. 

Islamabad United won seven games out of 11 with the strike rate of almost 64 and ranked at number 1 position of the PSL points table. United were the champions in the first edition of Pakistan Super League 2016. 

Islamabad United didn’t perform well during the PSL 2017 or 2nd edition as the team made its spot at number 4 position at PSL Standings. The team managed four wins over nine matches reached in the playoffs and knocked out in the next game.

United bounced back during the PSL 2018 or PSL 3 as it became champion for the second time. IU won 8 games out of 12 with one tied game. Islamabad United won the title against Peshawar Zalmi as Zalmi were the defending the PSL 2017 title. 

Islamabad United charged back in PSL 2019 and qualified for the playoffs with 50 strike rate and ranked at position three at PSL ladder. The overall stats about United had been favourable since the first edition. 

Brand Identity

Islamabad United logo revealed on December 22, 2015, during the inaugural edition ceremony of United for the first edition of Pakistan Super League.  The emblem featured with a lion with a red, orange and light shade of brown colours.

Ahead of PSL 2020, the franchise has made little changes in the original design of United Kit for PSL 5 with red and gold shades. The new kit for PSL 2020 featured with the prominent dark colour combinations. 

Islamabad United had sponsors like Dostea, Cinepax, WWF Pakistan, Mocca, Dunya News, FM 101 and JS Bank etc. For PSL 2020 edition, Islamabad United have sponsoring partner Bisconni for front branding. Ufone, Fast Cables, Samaa TV, Tetra Pak and Sprite, will take on for the promotion of ISLU brand. 

Brand Ambassadors

Showbiz star and handsome man on earth award holder Fawad Khan jointed Islamabad United as a brand ambassador. Though his contract with IU retained for the next two seasons as well. Fawad Khan represented Islamabad United for PSL 1, PSL 2 and Pakistan Super League 2018.

From the most recent PSL 2019 edition, Islamabad United contracted Ali Zafar and Momina Mustehsan as brand ambassadors. Both professional singers represented IU during the PSL 2019 and have been retained for PSL 2020 Islamabad brand ambassador. 

Islamabad United Squad

From the inaugural edition of Pakistan Super League 2016 until the 3rd edition Misbah Ul Haq captained the side and won the title twice for his team. IU had the most active site of the tournament since the first edition and proved challenging to the opponents and never lost as a single-sided contest. 

Islamabad United coached by former Australian cricketer Dean Jones, Waqar Younis, and Saeed Anwar. The team has dominated by the prominent international figures like Luke Ronchi, Sharjeel Khan, Andre Russell, Dwayne Smith and Rumman Raees.

Quetta Gladiators - PSL 2020

Quetta Gladiators is a professional T20 franchise cricket team and representing the largest province of Pakistan by area, Balochistan. The franchise currently owned by Nadeem Omer, based in Quetta and have Bugti Quetta Cricket Stadium as home ground the team.

Quetta Gladiators has proved to be the most resilient and tough enough to win against as team has been twice runner up and one title win. The team topped the PSL points table in all seasons of Pakistan Super League. 

The franchise has captained by Pakistan National Cricket Team skipper Sarfaraz Ahamd and under his captaincy team won the title in PSL 2019. Gladiators are with the most number of wins by a team in entire PSL history by dominating Islamabad United with 26 wins out of 44 matches.

Gladiators have coached by former West Indian legendary cricketer Sir Viv Richards the hero of WC 1979 and Abdul Razzaq as an assistant coach. The team has to lead run-scorer Ahmad Shahzad and Mohammad Nawaz as leading wicket-taker.

PSL Journey

Quetta Gladiators Pakistan Super League journey has been super incredible as the team has performed well and fought every game to clinch on the points table. The franchise has played three semifinals out of 4 entire seasons and clinches the title too.

Gladiators stats for PSL 2016 has fantastic as the team ranked at number 2 position of the PSL 1 points table. The team won 7 games out of 10 with 70 strike rate. During PSL 2017, Gladiators again topped the PSL ladder at the same position but couldn’t make it.

Quetta Gladiators logo is the accurate depiction of warriors and logo is the variant of the ancient Roman “Galea” helmet, worn by Gladiators during their fights. The management appointed Maya Ali and Fakhar Mehmood as brand ambassador during PSL 2019 for Gladiators and retained by the franchise too. A pop singer from Quetta Annie Khalid became brand ambassador during PSL 2017 along with KaleemUllah footballer.

The franchise contracted MMA fighter Ahmad Mujtaba, Maya Ali and Fakhar Mehmood for PSL 2018, 2019 as the brand ambassador. For brand promotion, Gladiators have decided to retain the same celebs for PSL 2020 as ambassadors. 

Quetta Gladiators Team Squad

Gladiators are the most skilled side of the tournament with the perfect combination of batsmen, fielders, bowlers and managers as well. The PSL Team Squads has not been announced so far however the franchise has decided to retain the players. 

Gladiators have Shane Watson, Rilee Rossow, Tim Southee, Anwar Ali and Jason Holder. They have the stronger version of PSL squads since the first edition with batting, bowling, fielding and all-rounds. 

Lots of national and international cricketers have made their way to the international cricket after performing under the Gladiators flag. During PSL 2018, Gladiators lost the semi-final against Peshawar Zalmi from a narrow end.

Peshawar Zalmi is a professional T20 cricket franchise and widely known as Zalmi. The franchise plays for Pakistan Super League and represents Peshawar with Arbaz Niaz Cricket Stadium as the home ground to Zalmi’s. 

Currently, the team is lead by West Indian star all-rounder - Darren Sammy and coached by former legendary Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Akram. Former skipper and widely known Boom Boom Afridi captained the franchise in maiden PSL 2016 edition.

PSL 2019 - PSL 4 Peshawar Zalmi was also runner up against Quetta Gladiators. The team, however, gave a tough time to the opponents and maintained almost 60% strike rate. Gladiators won the title for the first time after nearly striking in every PSL edition for the title.

Peshawar Zalmi logo is the fusion of the traditional Peshawari turban with cricket stumps. Zalmi logo has three different shades with yellow, white and blue, with significantly promoting regional pride and energy of the people.

Peshawar Zalmi kit for PSL 2020 has mainly yellow, black and blue shades which changed from the first jersey of Zalmi. Haier sponsors mostly the team and have various branding options like the front, back, chest or sleeve branding.

Peshawar Zalmi Anthem

Over the launching ceremony of Peshawar Zalmi, the team released the anthem. During the PSL 2019, official Pashto Anthem sung by Zeek Afridi and Gul Panra with the title “ Khumariyaan”. The hymn got an appreciation from the local fans as it pleased the local audience being in regional language. 

Lots of Peshawar Zalmi anthems presented to the management like Ivon Shafiq, Layaq Zada released the song title “ Zalmi Da Pekhawar”. The anthem got some memorable moments and highlights but didn’t select as Zalmi anthem.

Karachi Kings - PSL 2020

Karachi Kings is a professional Twenty20 cricket franchise and known as KK. The franchise was formed in 2015 and owned by Salman Iqbal or ARY Media Group. Karachi Kings was the most expensive franchise in the history of PSL until Multan Sultan broke the records. 

Karachi Kings is nominally based in the big city of Pakistan and is one of the first five franchisees to take part in PSL all season. Kings have performed well in all seasons of Pakistan Super League like PSL 1, PSL 2, PSL 3 and PSL 4. 

Energetic young all-rounder captains the Imad Wasim coached by former South African cricketer Mickey Auther. Mickey is the former head of Pakistan National Cricket Team who contracts have been terminated just after WC 2019. Kings head coach Mickey Arthur and assistant coach Azhar Mehmood. 

Karachi Kings have National Cricket Stadium, Karachi as the home ground to the team with the capacity of 35000 spectators. The franchise have massive fan base across the country, especially from the home ground as well. 

PSL Journey

Karachi Kings played their maiden PSL 1 match against Lahore Qalandars and won the game quite comfortably. The first edition of PSL 2016 didn’t prove to be lucky for Kings as the team won only two games out of 8 and didn’t qualified for the elimination stage. 

For the 2nd edition of Pakistan Super League - PSL 2017 - PSL 2 Karachi Kings qualified for the playoff or elimination stage. The team won 5 games out of 10 and lost five too. Babar Azam, Kumar Sangakkara, Ravi Bopara and Mohammad Amir played a vital role. 

PSL 3 - PSL 2018 - Karachi Kings still managed to win with 50% strike rate. The team won 5/10, lost 5/10, 1 tied and one match with NR. The crew managed to qualify for PSL 3 playoff stage but couldn’t progress to make through finals or semi-final. 

During PSL 4 - PSL 2019 - Pakistan Super League - Karachi Kings were out of the race from the knockout stage. The got a chance to make a spot in the top at PSL points table but failed to do so. All hopes with the massive support from the 5th largest city of the world Karachi all went in vain. 

Brand Identity

Karachi Kings logo or kit design for Pakistan Super League is with the motto of resilience. The franchise has a true spirit of fighting against the opponents as some of the shiny stars from the international cricket world are part of KK. 

Karachi King’s jersey primary colour is “Blue and Gold” manufactured by AJ Sports. Bahria Town sponsored Kings for the first three PSL season. Other sponsors were Pepsi, Brighto Paints and Oey Hoye lays. Imtiaz Super Market, Inverex Inverter, Rooh Afza and Cadbury Dairy Milk sponsored Zalmi for PSL 2020. Kings are ready to bounce back for this season as they owe fighting spirit.

The veteran Karwood actor Humayun Saeed, Shehzad Roy and a TV program host Fahad Mustafa is the ambassador for PSL 5. All these stars from the entertainment industry will take part in the promotion of Karachi Kings for the PSL 5 season.

Karachi Kings Squad for PSL 2020 has been finalised just after the PSL 5 draft. KK team squad 2020 has not been completed so far because everyone is waiting for the PSL Team Squads draft ceremony. According to sources, Imad Wasim will lead the Karachi Kings for PSL 5 as skipper. 

Karachi Kings have young and energetic Imad who is expecting to give a tough time to the opponents inHBL PSL 5. Chances are there that Karachi Kings will retain some of their players like Babar Azam, Mohammad Amir, Liam Dawson, Mujeeb Ur Rehman etc.

Karachi Kings Anthem

Karachi King’s anthem for PSL 5 released by Ali Zafar, the great artist who have dropped several popular albums in Pakistan. The title song of Karachi Kings “Ab Khel Jamay Ga” had released during the PSL 2017 or 2nd edition of Pakistan Super League. 

During PSL 3 or PSL 2018, Shehzad Roy dropped the Karachi Kings anthem as “De Dhana Dhan”. The title widely appraised and loved by cricket fans especially by the Karachi Kings fans. However, during PSL 3 Kings results were 50/50 at PSL Points Table. 

Ali Azmat dropped PSL 2019 anthem for Karachi Kings with the title “Dilun K Badshah”. Kings loved this theme or title song and hymn gained popularity with millions of downloads in all formats within the first week. 

King’s anthem for PSL 2020 is all set to be released soon. The management has finalised artist from the Pakistan showbiz industry like Ali Azmat, Shehzad Roy, Ali Zafar and few other names are under the curve. PSL 2020 anthem will be released sooner for Karachi Kings.

Multan Sultans - PSL 5

Multan Sultans is a professional T20 cricket franchise which is owned by Ali Khan Tareen and Taimoor Malik jointly. The franchise was introduced in 2017 and took part in the 3rd edition of PSL. The team nominally based in Multan, the city of Saints.

Multan Sultans own Multan Cricket Stadium with a capacity of 35000 spectators as the home ground to the team. During the first edition of Multan Sultan as PSL 3, team captained by Shoaib Malik under the coaching of “King of Swing” Wasim Akram.

PSL Journey 

During PSL 3 the team defeated the defending title Peshawar Zalmi by seven wickets in the chase of 152 runs. The team beat Islamabad United, Peshawar Zalmi and Lahore Qalandars at the group stage but didn’t make through knockout stage. 

Imran Tahir, Junaid Khan and Shoaib Malik were the prominent figures during the PSL 2018 as the first edition to Multan Sultans. Sultans won 4 matches out of 9 games and lost the rest off. The team didn’t qualified for the PSL knockout stage. 

During the PSL 2019, the team captained by Shahid Afridi and skipper became leading wicket-taker with ten wickets in 8 matches. Sultans won 3 games out of 10 and didn’t maintain their reputation in PSL 2019.

Shahid Afridi, Imran Tahir, and Mohammad Ilyas were the leading figures on bowling side for Sultans. The team lost the opening game of PSL 2019 against Karachi Kings with a narrow defeat of just seven runs. 

Brand Identity

Sultans were introduced with their debut to Pakistan Super League as the 6th team of the tournament. During PSL 3 or PSL 2018, the franchise made its debut and defeated the defending champions in the first game of the competition.

The team got brand identity when the former skipper of Pakistan National Team skipper and a man with the most wickets Wasim Akram joined the franchise as head coach. Sultans logo and kit revealed for PSL 2020 edition with enthusiasm of win, and everyone welcomed the Sultans. 

Tom Moody is the head coach of Multan Sultan for PSL 2020 and team is all set to rock this year. Moody has a handsome profile as Australian cricketer who has recorded his name in the history book of international cricket.

The showbiz and Lollywood star Javed Shaikh, Ahsan Khan, Momal Sheikh, and Neelam Munir will represent the franchise. Sultans have finalised Sadia Khan another Lollywood or Kariwood star will take part in the promo of Multan Sultans. 

Sultans has many promotion partners for Pakistan Super League 2020 like Pepsi, Lay’s, OLX, Asia Ghee Mills, Fauji Fertilizers and Afsaneh. The team will wear these logos as Multan Sultan’s kit logo.

Multan Sultan Squad

For PSL 5 - PSL 2020 or Pakistan Super League 2020 - Multan Sultan has announced its current squad. Sultans have chosen the balanced side this time after losing two consecutive terms and not making through knockout stage. 

According to the PSL 2020 schedule and teams - Multan Sultans is all set to announce their squad for the PSL 5. The franchise will retain the max players from the PSL 4 Multan Squad. 

PSL 5 - Multan Sultans has plenty of T Twenty specialist players, including national and international. The team has finalised from draft to pick top English batsman who have to outsmart all oppositions during the ICC WC 2019.

Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, and many other international figures to take part in Pakistan Super League 2020 edition. The franchise has picked up Jofra Archer who became part of the team of the tournament.

Multan Sultan initially introduced with the legendary folk singer Atta Ullah Khan Esa Khailvi song “Baariyan Sab Nai Leen Ab Waqt Janobb Ka Hai”. The title song or theme song released during the maiden PSL 2018 edition for Multan Sultan.

During the PSL 2019, Babar Khan expressed his love for Multan Sultan, and the theme song was released. The title was “Hum Hain Multan Sultan”. You can Google the Multan Sultan Anthem or Multan Sultan Song PSL 5.

Lahore Qalandars - PSL 2020

Lahore Qalandars is a professional T20 cricket franchise and nominally represents the city of Lahore. Qalandars have Gaddafi Cricket Stadium as their home ground. Rana Fawad owns the team (Qatar Lubricants Company Limited (QALCO).

Lahore Qalandar is the second most expensive franchise in Pakistan Super League. Former Pakistani fast bowler Aqib Javed coached the team and captained by Azhar Ali, Brendon McCullum, Fakhar Zaman, AB De Villiers and Mohammad Hafeez. 

The franchise has been so unlucky during the entire PSL journey so far, for being at the last place at the PSL points table. Pakistan opening batsman Fakhar Zaman is the leading run-scorer for Lahore Qalandars while Yasir Shah as the leading wicket-taker. 

Qalandars have never qualified for the play-offs or elimination stage during the entire PSL journey. Qalandars are the team with the most number of losing games despite having big names from the national and international cricket zones. 

PSL Journey

Lahore Qalandars has lowest strike rate as winning percentage with 30% only and knocked out from the group stage of the tournament. The team never qualified for elimination or playoff round and were quite disappointing for the Lahore. 

Qalandars won only two games out of 8 during PSL 2016 and straightaway knocked out of the tournament. The team was expected to bounce back for the next season but only manage to win three games out of 8 and against were out of the competition.

The team made significant changes in the PSL 2018 draft to give a tough time to the opponents. Qalandars won only two games, six lost, one tied and 1 NR during PSL 3 and were out of the tournament due to NRR low. 

They changed the entire strategy of the game to win PSL 2019 title but ended up with just 30 Strike rate. Qalandars were knocked out for the 4th time from group stage by claiming the lowest spot in PSL 2019 Standings. The team only won 3 games out of 10.

The overall stats for the Lahore Qalandars are horrible as they won only ten games out of 36 games with 1/1 tied and NR. United have the lowest strike rate and stand at the last position of the PSL ladder. 

Brand Identity

Qalandars are representing the second biggest city of Pakistan Lahore. Letter “Q” represents two origins Qalandars and Qatar (QALCO). The brand or logo primarily highlights the “Sufi Culture of Lahore” so named with the standard term Qalandars. 

The Sufi whirling and three stumps to right of the logo and a cricket ball as the base truly represents Qalandars love for cricket. The logo is a clear depiction of world Qalandars. 

The Qalandars kit for PSL 5 or PSL 2020 will be similar one as PSL 2019 were. Lahore Qalandars will change sponsorship logos from the team jersey. Qalandars have changed their T-Shirt and trousers from red & black to light green kit for PSL 3, PSL 4 and most probably for PSL 5.

Brand Ambassadors

Lahore Qalandars had appointed veteran actor from Pakistan Mr Shaan Shahid as the brand ambassador. Shaan Shahid just continued as brand ambassador for Qalandars until PSL 2016 and PSL 2017 edition. 

For the PSL 2018 or 3rd edition of Pakistan Super League, Qalandar appointed Pakistan superstar Shaheen Shah Afridi as an ambassador of the team. Shaheen represented Lahore Qalandars for PSL 2019 or 4th edition as well. 

The management have appointed Shaan Shahid as brand ambassador for Lahore Qalandars for the PSL 2020 or PSL 5. Lahore Qalandars has major sponsorship with Jazz and Eco-Star as their front branding. The team got aid by QALCO, Royal Palm, BOP, ZXMCO and Gree for the PSL 2020 edition. 

Lahore Qalandars Squad 

Qalandars have announced their final squad for PSL 2020 with the retention of some players from the PSL 2019 edition. The team have lots of National and International T20 players from the globe and hoping better this time to qualify for the PSL elimination stage. 

Qalandars have many local players and picked up players from the PSL 5 local players draft Platinum category. Mohammad Hafeez will lead the side along with Martin Guptill, Fakhar Zaman and Jimmy Needham as well.

Lahore Qalandars have major foreign players from the PSL Team Squads draft - The team is coming up with the cricket superstars from New Zealand, Australia, England, South Africa and West Indies. Hashim Amla, Jason Roy, Sam Billings and Ross Taylor are on top of the list to become Qalandars 2020 squad.
