Thisara Perera is a left-handed batting all-rounder and right-arm medium fast bowler, a naturally built aggressive hitter and a smasher of the ball absorbs pressure and can hit bang bang big hits. He has played all formats of International Cricket for his national side and captained the Sri Lanka Cricket Team in limited-overs cricket T20I. Thisara Perera is commonly known as TP or Panda for his nicknames.
Perera made his first international appearance when represented Sri Lanka U-19 during the 2008 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup and grabbed the attention of Sri Lankan selectors being leading wicket-taker in the U-19 World Cup. Parera named in World XI squad to play three T20I against Pakistan in the 2017 Independence Cup in Lahore, in which he scored 47 runs off 19 balls and claimed a victory for his team by 7 wickets.
Intl. Cricket Career
He recorded the second-most runs in ODI history due to his hard-hitting ability with 35 runs in an over with 5 sixes, 1 four and with a single wide to Robin Peterson against South Africa on July 26, 2013. In an ODI match with New Zealand, Jimmy Neesham hammered Thisara hammered 34 runs in 49th over with 4 sixes, and he ended his spell with two wickets and 80 runs in 10 overs.
Thisara Perera has most runs while batting at number 9 in ODI history or lower highest individual while batting at number 9 with unbeaten 80 runs. Thisara scored his first ODI century with 140 runs off 74 balls against New Zealand, which is the fastest against NZ at 57 balls on January 5, 2019. Parera has also played a single T20I against West Indies for World XI, hosted at Lord’s, England on May 31, 2019.
He became the first Sri Lankan and 4th overall to take T20I hat-trick, which he recorded against India in January 2016. Parera took his first five wickets haul in ODI against India in Kolkata in December 2009. TP is the first Sri Lankan to take 6 wickets hauls in Test and ODI hat-trick against Pakistan. In April 2019, he was named in Sri Lanka’s squad for the ICC 2019 Cricket World Cup.
Franchise T20 Cricket
Perera made his debut in the Indian Premier League for Chennai Super Kings during IPL 2010 and also played for Kochi Tuskers Kerala, Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kings XI Punjab and Rising Pune Supergiants during IPL seasons 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014-15 respectively. He made his debut in the KFC Big Bash league for Brisbane Heat during BBL 2012 and later represented Melbourne Renegades during the BBL season 2018-19.
Thisara Perera signed Quetta Gladiators for the inaugural edition of Pakistan Super League in PSL 2016 and retained by the same team until the most recent PSL 2019, in which his team crowned for the first time. Perera made his debut in English County Championship for Gloucestershire during the English County season 2017-18.
Thisara made his debut in the Sri Lanka Premier League for Kandurata Warriors during the second edition in 2012. He made his debut in the Bangladesh Premier League for Rangpur Riders during the BBL season 2015 and played for the same franchise in 2017 and later he joined Comilla Victorians in 2016-present.
Perera made his debut in the Global T20 Canada for its inaugural tournament for Montreal Tigers in June 2018. Perera made his debut in the first edition of the Afghanistan Premier League for Paktia in September 2018.
