Sophia Cricket Ground is a historic ground as it has recorded a number of national or international level cricket records so far. Cardiff Sophia Gardens Cricket Ground has won hearts by conducting several national and international cricket events like Natwest T20 Blast, National T20 Cup and Cricket England. The ground is known as Cardiff City Stadium and home of the Glamorgan County Cricket Club situated on the west bank of the River Taff. Sophia Gardens is named after Lady Sophia Rawdon-Hastings, daughter of the 1st Marquess of Hastings and wife to the 2nd Marquess of Bute.
Glamorgan Cricket Club hosted Cardiff Horse Show and Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show in the 19th and 20th centuries. Initially, it was built for Festivals of Britain and used for different concerts until 1982. Cricket fans from Cardiff have witnessed so many scintillating contests between big guns of cricket in the recent past, most importantly England vs Pakistan recent ODI series has been fantastic. The record book of Sophia Gardens stands with the lowest One Day International Total scored by the Sri Lankan team against New Zealand when SL got all out for 138/10. The highest total scored at Sophia Gardens is 348 runs which England scored against Australia and won the game as well.
