Lasith Malinga (ලසිත් මාලිංග); is a right-arm medium-fast bowler who is commonly known as for his unusual, distinctive and sling bowling action. Malinga’s slower dipper, death yorkers, and unorthodox move made him death overs specialist. He is one of the best bowlers in the World for limited over cricket. He consistently bowls at 140 kmph, best known for his in-swinging yorkers and taking consecutive wickets.
Malinga made his first-class cricket for Galle in 2001. He played first-class cricket for Nondescripts in 2004-present, Basnahira in 2010-11. Malinga is the only bowler in the world to have 2 World Cup hat-tricks. Three hat-tricks in ODI and first bowler to take four wickets in four consecutive balls in any form of International Cricket Lasith Malinga captained the Sri Lanka team during ICC 2014 T20I Cricket World Cup.
Under his captaincy, Sri Lanka won the T20 Cricket World Cup for the first time. Maling is 4th Sri Lanka to take 300 ODI wickets after Muralitharan, Vaas, and Jayasuriya, and 5th quickest to achieve this feat with 203 matches. He has a record of wicket-taking and has five wickets haul 3 in Test, 8 in ODI and 1 in T20I, with his best bowling figures 5/50, 6/38 and 5/31 respectively.
Malinga captained Sri Lanka Cricket Team in ODI in 9 matches and lost all, he captained his team in 6 T20I and won 3 of them. He is the first Sri Lankan and second overall after Shahid Afridi leading wicket-taker in Twenty20 Internationals. Malinga’s highest ODI individual runs is the highest ever by a number 10 batsman.
T20 Cricket Leagues
Malinga made his debut in the Indian Premier League for Mumbai Indians. During the inaugural edition of IPL in 2008 and retained by the same franchise to the most recent IPL 2020 edition. Malinga is the leading wicket-taker in IPL with 161 wickets. He made his debut in the Bangladesh Premier League for Rangpur Riders during BPL 2017.
He played for Khulna Titans in 2019, with the best bowling figure of 6/7 in BBL history. Malinga made his debut in the Big Bash League for Melbourne Stars during BBL 2012 and retained by the same franchise until the next two seasons. He made his debut in the inaugural edition of the Caribbean Premier League for Guyana Amazon Warriors.
